Next we drive through Hanapepe Town. This charming and historic town captivates visitors with its timeless beauty and artistic flair. We drive along the picturesque main street lined with quaint buildings, art galleries, and charming boutiques, exuding a nostalgic small-town atmosphere.
We'll then stop at the the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge, a beloved landmark, known for its playful and nostalgic charm. Suspended over a river, this pedestrian-only crossing offers a thrilling experience as it gently sways beneath your feet, allowing you enjoy the town's laid-back atmosphere with panoramic views of the river and surrounding lush landscapes.
We'll then stop for lunch at the Waimea Plantation Cottage restaurant to enjoy a delicious local meal before heading up the Waimea Canyon.
Our first stop is the Koke'e Lodge, sitting at 3,600 feet above sea level. The higher elevation contributes to a cooler and refreshing climate and a chance to experience the unique native forest mountainous environment of Kauai. The nature trail behind the lodge showcases pristine native forest, with towering trees, vibrant flora, and occasional glimpses of native species of birds.
