Taste the diverse flavors of the Big Island on this half-day food and culture tour. From warm, sugar-dusted malasadas to freshly harvested macadamia nuts and tropical fruits, this experience is a delicious deep dive into Hawaii’s culinary traditions. Along the way, enjoy stunning views at Waipio Valley Lookout, visit bustling farmers' markets, and learn the stories behind the island’s most iconic treats. With luxury transportation and expert guides, this tour offers an intimate and immersive way to savor the best of Hawaii—without taking up your entire day.

What to Expect

Start your day with a taste of Hawaii’s favorite treat: malasadas. Arriving at Tex Drive-In, you’ll be greeted by the sweet aroma of freshly fried pastries. These Portuguese-style donuts are warm, pillowy, and filled with rich flavors like custard and guava. As you enjoy your malasada, your guide will share the history of how this beloved snack became a staple in the islands.

Next, travel to Ahualoa Family Farms, where you’ll sample two of Hawaii’s most famous exports—Hamakua coffee and macadamia nuts. Sip on freshly brewed coffee, grown on the island’s volcanic slopes, and enjoy the rich, buttery crunch of macadamia nuts in a variety of flavors. As you explore the farm, learn about sustainable agriculture and the deep-rooted connection between Hawaii’s land and its food.

From there, take in one of the most breathtaking sights on the Big Island: Waipio Valley Lookout. Known as the "Valley of the Kings," this sacred place was once home to Hawaiian royalty. Standing at the edge of the lookout, gaze down at the lush valley floor, where waterfalls tumble from the cliffs and taro fields thrive. Your guide will bring the valley’s history to life, sharing stories of its cultural significance and legendary past.

A short drive away, stop at the Waipio Fruit Shack for a refreshing taste of Hawaii’s exotic fruits. Try juicy pineapples, tangy lilikoi (passionfruit), and sweet lychees, all grown locally. Sip fresh coconut water straight from the shell and watch a live fruit-cutting demonstration. It’s a feast for the senses, giving you an authentic taste of Hawaii’s tropical bounty.

Next, we make our way to Waimea, a picturesque town known for its rolling green hills, cool upland climate, and deep paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) heritage.Depending on the day of your tour, you’ll visit one of Waimea’s renowned farmers’ markets:

  • Waimea Midweek Farmer’s Market (Wednesday) – A bustling market featuring fresh produce, homemade treats, and handcrafted goods from local vendors. Stroll through the stalls and chat with farmers, bakers, and artisans to experience the island’s thriving food scene.
  • Waimea Town Market (Saturday) – A lively weekend gathering at Parker School, where you can explore a diverse selection of farm-fresh fruits, baked goods, and traditional Hawaiian specialties. This is the perfect place to pick up unique souvenirs or enjoy a spontaneous local snack.

As the tour winds down, relax in the comfort of your luxury vehicle and enjoy a final snack basket filled with Hawaiian treats like crack seed, cookies, and taro chips. Reflect on the flavors and stories of the day as you make your way back to your hotel, leaving with a deeper appreciation for Hawaii’s rich culinary and cultural heritage.
