Our journey from sea level to the nearly 14,000-foot summit of Mauna Kea reveals the wonders and world-class clarity of the Hawaiian night sky.

During the tour your guide will narrate incredible information while you watch the sunset from the Mauna Kea summit before viewing the night sky from above the clouds through our powerful telescopes

What to Expect

We start our tour picking you up in our luxury 4wd vans from your Kona and Waikoloa meeting location. Our knowledgable and friendly guide will narrate the tour along the way telling of the early Hawaiian travelers and how they moved through the mountain regions.

We then drive through the saddle of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on our way to a historic ranch for our picnic dinner. During the picnic dinner enjoy a lesson on Hawaiian star navigation and how incredibly advanced the Ancient Hawaiians were with mapping the stars.

After dinner, we begin our drive up the Mauna Kea summit road. Once at the top we will delight in the awe-inspiring Hawaiian sunset at the top of Maunakea, the highest point in the Pacific.

We then descend down to 9,000 ft. for our private stargazing experience through our 11” Celestron telescope. Using these powerful telescopes we will view planets and their moons, distant stars, deep craters of our moon, and other celestial bodies. We finish the night sipping tea or hot chocolate before we begin our drive back down to your accommodation.

Restrictions

• Children under 13 are not permitted on this tour due to altitude.
• Must be able to walk 150 yards on uneven terrain
• Please wear closed-toe shoes, warm socks and/or leggings, long pants, and a sweatshirt or sweater.
  
• Please bring a reusable water bottle
• Due to the high altitude, this tour is not advised for those with respiratory, circulatory or heart conditions, pregnancy, or poor health.
• If you plan to scuba dive, do not plan to go to the summit within 24 hours after you dive due to the altitude.
